Does Powder Coating Prevent Rust

Does powder coating act as a rust preventative? If the powder coated finish is unbroken it can keep out the moisture and oxygen needed for rust. But if the coating is damaged it offers an opening for rust to grow and to lift up the protective film. A zinc undercoating (if present) will halt the delamination of the powder coating. Bottom line, a powder coated finish with a zinc undercoat is the best combination against rust.
